Claire has always thrived on being inspired to create art throughout her life. Her work portrays strong emotion, both in its atmospheric subject matter and the energetic way in which she paints. After her growing potential was realised by established artist Ashley Shaw back in 1997, she developed her skills and worked under Ashley's guidance for 5 years, selling her first painting within a year of her beginning. Claire was able to exhibit her first collection of paintings at the "The Gallery", Virginia Waters, and has since then enjoyed exhibiting at various other galleries and establishments around the UK.

After relocating to Cornwall in 2005, to the heart of the artist's community in St.Ives, she was fortunate to run her own studio gallery "Off The Bitten Track...", from which she both worked and successfully sold her paintings located just a few steps away from the harbour front.

More recently Claire has been working on new paintings from her home studio just outside St.Ives. She hopes to work on larger canvasses throughout the summer, providing a bolder and more striking effect. Keep checking her New Gallery section for all the latest paintings!

Claire's work has nearly always had its roots firmly stuck in the Cornish and Devonshire coastland and yet clearly stands out as being quite different to most other styles of contemporary art. Earlier influences include Monet, Sisley, Turner and Van Gogh. More 'modern inspirations' include Jackson Pollock and Cornwall's own, Kurt Jackson.

Her paintings are built up from applying layers and layers of thinned oil colours, which slowly merge together and develop into glimpses of abstracted hazy beaches, villages, oceans, meadows..... and much more once it starts to haul you in...
